چکیده

approved: Andreas Weisshaar In cellular telephones, RF power amplifiers consume a significant part of the total phone current. Reducing the average PA current will extend battery life. In GSM systems the handset is commanded by the base station to transmit at power levels lower than full power much of the time. A Doherty amplifier can be used to improve efficiency at these lower power levels, providing a lower average PA current when evaluated over the entire power range. A Doherty amplifier is presented that uses the DC base voltage to control the output power. The base control amplifier is first studied separately, then two such amplifiers are combined to create a Doherty amplifier. An analysis of battery life while the phone is on a call, or talk time, is then performed. Talk time for the base control Doherty amplifier is compared to an ideal class B amplifier and to a Doherty amplifier composed of two class B amplifiers. Finally a base control Doherty amplifier is implemented at 30 MHz, both in simulation and hardware.

A 28-36 GHz Optimized CMOS Distributed Doherty Power Amplifier with A New Wideband Power Divider Structure

Background and Objectives: In this paper, a new design strategy was proposed in order to enhance bandwidth and efficiency of power amplifier. Methods: To realize the introduced design strategy, a power amplifier was designed using TSMC CMOS 0.18um technology for operating in the Ka band, i.e. the frequency range of 26.5-40GHz. To design the power amplifier, first a power divider (PD) with a ver...

Development of single-stage and Doherty GaN- based hybrid RF power amplifiers for quasi- constant envelope and high PAPR wireless standards

The paper describes the design, realization and characterization of a set of hybrid medium-power RF power amplifiers, based on a commercial packaged GaN HEMT and developed through a low-cost microstrip process. Two different design solutions suitable for wireless applications are presented: the first, intended for a constant-envelope modulation (with reference to the GSM standard), is a Class F...

Optimum Design of Doherty RFPA for Mobile WiMAX Base Stations

RF power amplifiers in mobile WiMAX transceivers operate in an inherently nonlinear manner. It is possible to amplify the signal in the linear region, and avoid distortion, using output power back-off; however, this approach may suffer significant reduction in efficiency and power output. This paper investigates the use of Doherty techniques instead of back-off, to simultaneously achieve good e...

Efficiency Enhancement of Base Station Power Amplifiers Using Doherty Technique

The power amplifiers are typically the most power-consuming block in wireless communication systems. Spectrum is expensive, and newer technologies demand transmission of maximum amount of data with minimum spectrum usage. This requires sophisticated modulation techniques, leading to wide, dynamic signals that require linear amplification. Although linear amplification is achievable, it always c...

A Symmetrical Optimized Doherty Power Amplifier for LTE Band41

A symmetric Power Amplifier with an optimized impedance quarter wave transmission line is presented using a thermally enhanced high Power LDMOS FET i.e. a 140W Infineon PTFC261402 device. This implementation is realized in the operating frequency of LTE Band41 (2.496GHz-2.69GHz) applicable for LTE base stations. This design achieves a high efficiency that persists for an output power back off r...
